Battlecode 2023 Postmortem

I did Battlecode this IAP (Independent Activities Period, essentially MIT’s winter term) in a team with two other people. I was a total beginner to Java and algorithms at the beginning of the competition, having only coded before for research purposes, but I read a blog post about Battlecode and thought it seemed fun. So I signed up with Reece Yang and Jade Chongsathapornpong, and we agreed to participate casually. Our team, no thoughts head empty, ultimately won second place in the Newbie Tournament, a subset of the competition for first-time competitors at MIT.
